Festivals

1) Karthigai
 
Festival of lights, Karthigai is observed in most Hindu homes in Kerala. A bonfire is organised in the villages, and homes are decorated with oil lamps. The entire town is lit up and the sight is simply surreal. 
 
2) Mahashivarathri

An important festival for Hindus, Mahashivrathri is celebrated in Kumbam (Feb-March). It is believed that on this day Lord Shiva consumed poison to save the world from destruction. During this festival, people visit Shiva shrines to offer their prayers to the almighty.

3) Thirunelli Festival

Celebrated on Vishu and its eve, the Thirunelli Festival is a two-day fiesta of Sree Thirunelli Devaswom at Thirunelli in Wayanad. It is held in the Malayalam month of Medam (April).

Places

1) Chembra Peak
The highest peak in Wayanad, Chembra Peak is perched at a height of 2100m. It is a famous trail for trekking. If you are looking for some adventure in the wilderness, a hike to this peak won't disappoint!

2) Edakkal Caves
Eddakal Caves are two natural caves situated at 1,200 metres higher than sea level on Ambukutty Mala. It is the only cave in India that has stone age carvings. Trek the vertical Rocky Mountains to reach this place and unfurl its various legends.

3) Meenmutty Waterfalls
A 2 km jungle trek will take you to the largest and the most breathtaking waterfall in Wayanad - Meenmutty Waterfalls. One of the unique elements of Meenmutty waterfalls is that it falls from nearly 1000 ft over three tiers, presenting a beautiful spectacle!
